Summer in the School

The summer month of August is traditionally a quiet month in universities, but the Open University is different and there is still a lot happening here in the School of Psychology & Counselling.

Some of our teaching programme continues, including undergraduate modules that began in February and postgraduate modules on which summer is the time for writing dissertations. Our research students are probably continuing with their work towards their PhDs – that doesn’t really stop over three or more years. Many of the School’s academics will be using the summer to advance their research. This is also the time when we’re looking ahead to arrangements for the new academic year, planning the autumn teaching and introducing updates and new materials.

If you’re accessing this blog in August, we recommend that you look back to some of our recent and not so recent posts. A good way to begin is to click on the word cloud at the bottom of the page. You’ll find references to different areas of psychology: ‘social psychology’, ‘counselling’, ‘forensic psychology’, ‘feminist psychology’, and different topics that we study and teach about: ‘crime’, ‘face recognition’, ‘sexuality’, ‘social justice’, ‘culture’, ‘migration’ and ‘children’. If you click on ‘Open Psychology Research Centre’, you’ll find links to our research centre website, with videos about our research groups and the research activities of individual researchers. And if you use the ‘search’ box on this page, you can look for Student News and also particular modules from our programme. Spend some time looking around and getting to know us!
