We are very pleased to announce the launch of the Opening Psychology Research Centre https://www.open.ac.uk/centres/psychology

In the run-up to the official launch on Tuesday 6thJuly, there will be a programme of online events, pre-recorded and live.

Here is the programme for LAUNCH DAY Tuesday 6 July: 

09:30-10:00 The centre co-directors Prof. Paul Stenner and Prof. Peter Hegarty present the welcome and introduction 

10:00-10:20 The university Vice-Chancellor Prof. Tim Blackman and the FASS Executive Dean Prof. Ian Fribbance speak 

KEYNOTE ADDRESS 1    10.20 – 12.00

The Director of the CuSP strand, Prof. Stephanie Taylor introduces the first keynote speaker, Prof. Ann Phoenix

Prof. Phoenix delivers the keynote ‘Energetic Openings: Intersectional Psychology and Social Justice Trajectories’ 

Two discussants from the CuSP strand, Dr Johanna Motzkau and Dr Jovan Byford comment, followed by a Q&A session with an opportunity for attendees to post questions.

KEYNOTE ADDRESS 2    13.00 – 14.35

The Director of the PheW strand, Dr David Kaposi, introduces the second keynote speaker, Prof. Helen Spandler

Prof. Spandler delivers the keynote  ‘The politics of mental health: taking experiential knowledge seriously’ 

Two discussants from the PheW strand, Dr Simon Clarke and Dr Laura McGrath will then comment, followed by a Q&A session with an opportunity for attendees to post questions.

KEYNOTE ADDRESS 3  14.50 – 16.25

The co-Director of the FCRG, Dr Lara Frumkin, introduces the third keynote speaker, Prof. Laurence Alison.

Prof. Laurence Alison delivers the keynote ‘Revenge vs Rapport in Securing Information from High Value Detainees’ 

Two discussants from the FCRG strand, Dr Zoe Walkington and Dr Jim Turner will then comment, followed by a Q&A session with an opportunity for attendees to post questions.

16.25  The Centre Co-Directors respond to the keynotes and discussants.
